Dear 10th Senatorial District Voters:

I'm seeking re-election to the senate to start a project to bring community and civic values into the legislature. This would involve activating community networks and passing laws to reduce the influence of lobby interests at the legislature.

Over 36 years, I've learned that it's possible for legislators to have their decisions guided by community interests, more than the narrower interests of lobbyists. I've found that community networks, composed of civic groups of all types, can bolster collaborative policy-making in spite of sometimes intense political pressures.

I believe it is time to begin the long and challenging journey towards removing private interest monies and campaign donations from legislative politics. This would free legislators of the dilemma of having to choose between soliciting donations from lobby interests or risk losing the next election.
